Steve Turk
CEO

Steve Turk is CEO of Discovery Natural Resources. Mr. Turk joined Discovery in 2017 and is responsible for leading the organization's day-to-day operations and setting the strategic direction of the company. Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Turk served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Sandridge Energy where he was responsible for planning and directing the operations and technical activity for the company. Before joining Sandridge Energy, Steve held the position of Chief Operating Officer at HighMount Exploration & Production where he was responsible for the company’s drilling, completions, reservoir, geoscience, operations, financial planning and land departments. With over 35 years of energy industry experience, Steve has held a variety of engineering and leadership roles in multiple areas covering the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent and Appalachia. His experience also encompasses energy pipelines and consulting.

Mr. Turk received his BS in Geology from Edinboro State University, his BS in Petroleum Engineering from Penn State University and his Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and served on the SPE Forum Committee for Unconventional Completions.

 

Jim Govenlock
Vice President, Operations

Jim Govenlock is the Vice President, Operations of Discovery Natural Resources. Mr. Govenlock joined the company in 2017 and is responsible for providing the strategic and day-to-day operational leadership to Discovery’s Drilling, Completions, Production and Facilities Teams. In this role, Mr. Govenlock will help define operating standards and optimize the exploitation of our existing assets while maintaining a sustained focus on safety, costs, efficiency improvements and production.

Mr. Govenlock has nearly 25 years of engineering and operations experience in the oil and gas industry. He has held a variety of engineering and leadership roles in multiple basins, most recently leading Chesapeake Energy’s Rockies Business Unit. Prior to joining Chesapeake, Mr. Govenlock spent 9 years at Schlumberger where he moved quickly through the management ranks in Alberta, Canada and Texas.

Mr. Govenlock received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta.

Scott Hagg
Vice President, Finance

Scott Hagg is Vice President, Finance of Discovery Natural Resources and joined the firm in 2013. He is responsible for managing the Finance organization including Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Treasury and Procurement. Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Hagg was Vice President of Finance at the private equity firm Devonshire Investors where over his 16 year tenure he served in various positions of increasing responsibility.  While at Devonshire, Mr. Hagg provided financial analysis and support to several of Devonshire’s portfolio companies, including the initial business planning and start-up of Discovery.  He also served as CFO and Treasurer for the registered investment advisor for Devonshire’s private equity entities.  Mr. Hagg's experience while supporting Devonshire’s new business development Energy Platform includes evaluation of several wind, solar, hydro, and oil and gas service company investment opportunities.

Mr. Hagg received a Master of Science degree in Finance from Boston College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance and from Bridgewater State College.

Robert Barclay
Vice President, Admin Services & HR

Robert Barclay is Vice President of Administration Services & HR of Discovery Natural Resources. He joined the company in 2013 and leads Discovery’s Human Resources, IT, Corporate Security and Office Administration teams.

Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Barclay spent eight years working for Encana Corporation where he held HR positions of increasing responsibility in both the USA Division and at their Corporate Office in Calgary, Alberta.  Before joining Encana, Mr. Barclay spent nine years with Covidien where he held various HR roles in both Colorado and Massachusetts.

Mr. Barclay received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and his Master’s Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from the University of Minnesota.

Stan Garner
Vice President, Risk Management

Stan Garner is Vice President of Risk Management of Discovery Natural Resources. He joined the company in 2014 and leads Discovery’s Risk Management function which includes the Health, Safety and Environmental team.

Prior to joining Discovery, Mr. Garner worked at HighMount E&P as Vice President HSE and at Chesapeake as Corporate HSE Director. Mr. Garner began his career with Amoco Production in Denver, CO and worked onshore in a variety of HSE managerial roles in Wyoming, Colorado, Illinois and Houston. Following the Amoco BP merger he worked the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico as HSE Manager.

Mr. Garner received his Bachelor’s degree and his Master’s degree in Industrial Safety from the University of Central Missouri. He received his Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of Colorado.

Margaret Sledge
Vice President, General Counsel

Margaret Sledge is Vice President, General Counsel of Discovery Natural Resources. She joined the company in 2014 and leads Discovery’s Legal and Land teams.

Prior to joining Discovery, Ms. Sledge served as in-house legal counsel at CNG Producing Company, Dominion Exploration & Production, and HighMount Exploration & Production, where she was Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. Ms. Sledge began her legal career in private practice where she represented a variety of clients in a wide range of energy transactions and litigation matters.

Ms. Sledge received her BA from Case Western Reserve University and her JD from Tulane Law School.

Lee Steinke
VP, Geoscience

Lee Steinke is Vice President, Geoscience of Discovery Natural Resources. Ms. Steinke is responsible for leading the Geoscience team and helping to guide the strategic development of Discovery’s core assets. She joined the company in 2017.

Ms. Steinke has 15 years of geoscience experience in the oil and gas industry and is a Professional Geologist. She has held a variety of geoscience and leadership positions in the Williston, San Juan, Powder River, and Piceance basins with WPX Energy. Prior to joining WPX Energy, Ms. Steinke was a Geoscientist with Texaco, working conventional South Louisiana assets

Ms. Steinke earned her BA in Geology and Classics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her MS in Geology and Geophysics from Yale University, and her MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
