Measurement Technician

Overview

Under the supervision of the Measurement Foreman, monitors & calibrates metering, communication and automation equipment. Responsible for operation and maintenance of ABB meter software.  Must be aware of unusual changes in the metering operations and report to appropriate personnel. When problems occur, Measurement Technician is responsible for handling the immediate problem and recommending any necessary changes. 

Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Repairs and calibrates controllers, recorders, indicators, process analyzers, etc.
  • Repairs control valves, positioners, transducers, and any other part necessary to the operation of the valve
  • Repairs and calibrates flow, pressure, level, and temperature transmitters
  • Removes, repairs, calibrates and reinstalls all types of sensing elements for flow, temperature, pressure, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs control wiring 
  • Removes, dismantles, cleans, maintains and assembles instruments and replaces defective components
  • Monitors daily meter downloads
  • Troubleshoot, install, and repair Freewave radios    
  • Additional duties as assigned
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years of flow measurement & pipeline experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. 3 feet above ground level
  • Possible exposure to numerous oil field chemicals, including but not limited to soap, methanol, paraffin inhibitor and scale inhibitor
  • Periodic exposure to all types of weather conditions for long periods of time
  • Ability to hear over loud background noises
  • Ability to regularly work in a dangerous and fast-paced environment
Skills & Knowledge
  • Self-starter, able to perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Requires ability to adapt to fluctuating work schedule, i.e. frequent overtime; off duty call outs; varied work schedule
  • Ability to recognize changes and potential problems; exercise independent thinking to solve problems
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work in team environment
  • Basic math skills and computer knowledge
  • Valid driver license and good driving record

Complexity of Duties

  • Determine if safety hazard exists and take appropriate action
  • Ability to work on and around high pressure gas lines
  • Operate a variety of oilfield production related equipment and make minor repairs
  • Work with wells to optimize production to meet or exceed engineering expectations
  • Input production data into a computer program
  • Recommend changes to improve production or lower costs
  • Ability to identify production problems and have the mechanical and technical skills to solve them
  • Recommend changes to improve production or lower costs
  • Ability to work in varied roles, such as relief pumper or automation tech

*Majority of work will be outdoors under variable weather conditions.  May require occasional lifting of heavy objects.  Physical ability to perform routine maintenance on oil and gas wells as required.  Must be aware of potential hazards and know how to handle emergency situations.  Hazards include fluids under high pressure and deadly hydrogen sulfide which is often a component of gas that comes directly from the well.
