Overview

Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in the Midland Basin. 

The Drilling and Completions Engineer oversees company drilling and completion operations from conceptualization through design, execution, and review. Analyzes data and makes recommendations for optimization and cost reduction. Position responsibilities include supervision of well design, permitting activities, equipment and service procurement, project logistics, cost management, execution, onsite operations, and safety efforts for the entirety of the well development cycle from conceptualization to first sales.  
 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on daily drilling and completion activities. 
  • Recommend changes or improvements to work techniques.
  • Responsible for maintaining the assigned budget, tracking costs, and operational performance on a day-to-day basis. Implement cost and efficiency studies to track capital expenditures and continually improve program economics. Review and approve invoices for all services. Maintain consistent, accurate accounting of well costs. 
  • Develop and implement new techniques and approaches. 
  • Work closely with field operations, geologists, engineers, administrative staff, and external organizations to coordinate, execute, and advance all development activities and deliver key objectives for all drilling projects. Serve as a resource to all necessary stakeholders to drive positive asset performance, leveraging a strong technical expertise in a broad range of drilling and completions activities.
  • Prepare AFEs, casing designs, drilling programs, well plans, perforation and stimulation designs, clean-out procedures, and any other documents as required. 
  • Ensure all work performed adheres to Company standards and is in compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. Lead Discovery Natural Resources' environmental, health, and safety programs by example to demonstrate safe work practices, adhere to all forms and guidelines, and strictly follow all applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and review procurement documentation, assist in negotiations, and lead ongoing appraisal of all drilling and completions related equipment and services. 
  • Assist management with the maintenance of consistent and accurate capital spending accruals monthly.
  • Assist in the creation of drilling and completions related presentation material.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent field of study. Other technical degrees will be considered in conjunction with substantial relevant experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in drilling and completion engineering and operations
  • Unconventional horizontal drilling experience
  • Experience in well construction design, directional drilling, rig operations, logging, cementation, stimulation design/ops, logistics, cased-hole wireline, wellbore cleanout, and fishing is a plus.

  • Strong work ethic, an aptitude to learn, and a willingness to take on various tasks/projects to support broad business needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple teams/groups within the Denver and field office organizations. 
  • Proactive approach to managing Environmental, Health, and Safety standards and practices.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful
  • Ability to travel to field locations on short notice and for extended periods as necessary.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Estimated pay range: $155,000 – $195,000.
