Control Room Operator - Night Position

Overview

Reporting to the Production Foreman, the Control Room Operator position will support the overall monitoring of maintenance of the field operations to ensure that everything is working properly and prioritized items are handled in a timely fashion.  This position will watch closely to identify any abnormal operating and equipment conditions.  This position carries a large range of duties and must be able to adapt and adjust to the needs of operational strategies at any given point in time.

Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with operations in Texas. The company employs over 200 people and has over 1,000 wells in operation.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Central point of contact for all field operations, especially in emergency situations
  • Position will have basic knowledge of production, completions, work over and drilling operations
  • Continuously monitors horizontal and vertical facilities to help Lease Operators pump by exception
  • Monitors the operation of emissions control equipment and adjusts it to meet State and Federal Guidelines
  • Monitors alarms, oil call-ins, dispatches water hauling for the field and Workover Crews, etc.
  • Adheres to the “Pump by Exception” Program; Control Room Operator may be pumping a route from the Control Room
  • When abnormalities are detected, troubleshoot or repair the issue to minimize safety risks and economic losses by delegating to/informing other Production Department personnel
  • Utilizes SCADA to drive maintenance and efficiency
  • Utilizes Automation in order to turn water lines on/off
  • Ability to operate various switches, control devices, and valves, and knowledge of the effects each has on total operations
  • Dispatch the Specialist or Lease Operator to the well when problems occur
  • Direct oil trucks when the need arises
  • Follow up with each group/individual after dispatching until issues have been resolved
  • Scan EVIN and Carte daily; Communicate daily with the Production Technician(s)
  • Provide daily updates via email to Foremen regarding issues that have occurred and resolutions taken; electronically log status of events
  • Work a variable rotation (8 on/6 off schedule); required to communicate activity in the current shift to the next shift
  • Must possess the knowledge and skillset to operate all Production equipment; ability to troubleshoot all equipment; will have a role in training new Lease Operators
Education & Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of Lease Operating experience; both vertical and horizontal wells-unless Supervisor considers the candidate has the aptitude and technical skills for Control Room Operator with less than three years of Lease Operating experience
  • Previous Control Room Operating experience preferred
  • High School Diploma
Skills & Knowledge
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must
  • Strong aptitude in math; ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure, performance, and meter calculations
  • Must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Work well under pressure
  • Possess problem-solving skills
  • Must be proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, EVIN, Carte, Clear SCADA, Camera systems (PetroCloud), Well Vision, WinCCU, GeoForce, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Production, Completion, Workover, and Drilling Operations
  • Knowledge of Plunger Systems and Gas Lift Systems

*Work is performed in a normal office setting, requiring long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional field travel required.
